When Stevenson asked a farmer who was critical of Eisenhower's farm policy. "But why aren't people mad at Eisenhower?" the farmer exclaimed: "Oh, no one connects him with the administration." Stevenson told the story to his associates to show how hard it was campaigning against the popular General.
